The Martello Tower was built by the Board of Ordnance against invasion by Napoleon. The largest and most northerly of the chain of towers is constructed out of nearly a million bricks. It was built in the shape of a quatrefoil for four heavy guns.
Landmark Trust are opening Martello Tower for free on 14th and 15th September in association with Heritage Open Days.
